OLED protection features #1050
Comments
I don't know anything about this feature. You need to describe it more in detail, like how does it look in Vantage, what does it do exactly etc. |
Here's a video showing how each OLED Panel Setting option works in Vantage. Though it seems that OBS couldn't capture the behavior of the Display Dimmer option, it just dims the whole screen with a dark filter and it doesn't set the brightness level to 0. The background dimmer option doesn't cover the entire screen as it should, there's a bright 1px border around the edges. Selecting a time just starts a timer to trigger the dimming. 2023-12-12.20-04-06.mp4ASUS laptops have more OLED protection features compared to Vantage. You can check this page if you want more ideas on OLED protection. https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1044809/#B1 Expanding on the Display Dimmer option in Vantage, it would also be nice to have a dedicated screen timeout for the internal display (and turns it back on when the mouse cursor moves over it) that works independently from the power plan settings so that it's possible to keep a longer timeout for external displays. |
The taskbar dimmer option also seems to be doing some sort of color glow lighting effect, similar to YouTube's ambient mode. 2023-12-13.00-55-26.mp4 |
This is a really crucial feature for OLED screen users! Particularly, some sort of taskbar dimmer would be great to prevent burn-ins. I would argue that the Vantage version is badly implemented, as it causes streaks when you scroll the screen. Thanks in advance! |
When more laptops come with OLED screens, I think this might be worth implementing. In the end it seems to me like turning on auto hiding taskbar, having short display off time and maybe even setting a slideshow as desktop background would be far more effective and don't require anything to be added to LLT. |
Just adding something that you may want to think about when implementing this feature in the future. Currently the Vantage software does not automatically toggle this feature on or off when doing something like watching a video or movie. I found it annoying that my screen was always dimming while watching content so I turned the feature off. Perhaps there would be a way to disable it for certain apps, or while videos are being played when it is implemented into LLT. |

Lenovo Vantage now has some features like dimming the taskbar or background etc. to help prevent burn-in in OLED displays.
How would you like the problem to be solved?
if possible, add some similar features.
What alternatives have you considered?
no
Additional information
It's not necessary, quick screen time out will be enough I guess, but would be nice to have.
