Hi, there,

I started using fastanime when it was first released, installed as a binary in my ~/.local/bin folder. I haven't used it for a little while and decided to swap over to the new Arch package. I removed the old binary and my config folder to be safe, and then installed the fastanime-git package.

Now, I'm unable to stream anything at all, even though the browsing menus all work fine. I get the following error whenever I try: Sth went wrong 😢 while fetching this could mean you have poor internet connection or the provider is down

Note that everything was working fine prior to the update, although I admit I didn't try using the old binary today before removing it. The problem occurs:

  • On or off VPN
  • On various VPN locations worldwide
  • With both the fastanime-git and fastanime Arch packages
  • With the fastanime package in uv
  • With popular shows and obscure ones
  • With my old config folder in place or moved out
  • Logged into anilist or not
  • With any provider selected, either in the app itself or in config
  • With local caching disabled or enabled in config
  • No matter what quality or language settings are set in config

Not sure what else to try at this point. Would welcome any help getting this excellent app back working.

Hey. I have been seeing the same. However I can get stuff to play when switching the provider to animepahe. I see you said you tried changing providers, but just wanted to ask if you tried that one yet.

@FitzWM Have you tried clearing the cache?

fastanime cache --clean

Fastanime recently updated its cache table.

Tried that, but still could only get animephe to stream. I should have some free time this weekend to look at the providers and see if they are up or not. Still trying tk go through the code to find out what exactly handels pulljng the episodes for streaming.

If @FitzWM got the error regardless of providers, it's probably a problem with cache.

Your case however, might be a bit different. If you got this EXACT error message: Sth went wrong 😢 while fetching this could mean you have poor internet connection or the provider is down (not to be confused with Sth went wrong 😢 this could mean the provider is down or your internet) it means fastanime couldn't get a response from the provider or failed to parse their response when searching the title.

You could set FASTANIME_DEBUG env to get fastanime to throw an error if you wish to look into this issue.

Thanks for this. Looks like that fixed it, even when another reinstall just now didn't.
