How to place text on a document

I need to create a document on an A4 Landscape page. Effectively, I need to place text on the page such that it looks like 2x portrait A5 documents.

I have tried putting my required text in a table and using the setLeft, setRight, setTop and setBottom methods on the table to give the coordinates of where I want the table to be placed.
I have produced a document with nothing in it apart from the text I am trying to place in a specific location. No matter what values I use, the table appears at the top left of the page.

What can I use to make text appear in the location I want?
