Hi Luuk,
I am a total noob when it comes to code. I can copy-paste and luck out with some editing but that's about it. I managed to compile your code for the ESP32 but still get an error "missing header file for Classes". But the bigger issue I have is, how to run the Phyton script on the RPI. I have no idea where to start from.

On your diagram, you have "button press"? What button is pressed? Or is that the job of the .py script to simulate a button press for a safe shutdown?

It's the signals from your nav buttons, as interpreted by the ESP32.
