- Fixed an issue where AppleTV API calls would fail due to changes on AppleTV requiring a missing
utskparameter. (Issue #80) - Fixed an issue where iTunes URLs would not work due to iTunes no longer redirecting to AppleTV. A different method will be used now to find corresponding AppleTV URLs. Also added a retry mechanism as it appears to be a bit unreliable at times. (thanks @yonatand1230 for suggesting this method!). (Issue #78)
- Removed progress bar when where there are no matching subtitles to download (previously, it would just show 0/0 with 0% progress).
- Fixed a backwards compatibility issue in code, which would cause errors when running on Python versions lower than 3.12. (Issue #78)
The following update contains breaking changes to the config file.
If you are using one, please update your config file accordingly.
- Added a new
general.log-levelconfig setting, the log level of stdout (console) output. Set toinfoby default. Can be changed todebug,warning, orerror. See the updated example config for an example.
- Console output has been overhauled and improved, with colorful interactive output.
- Config file is now parsed and validated in a more reliable and efficient manner. Configuration errors will now be more readable and descriptive.
- Breaking config changes - the
scrapersconfig category has been updated. Settings that should apply for all scrapers are now under thescrapers.defaultcategory instead of straight underscrapers. See the updated example config for examples. - Updated AppleTV scraper request parameters.
- Minor improvements to logs.
- Python 3.8 is no longer supported. Minimum supported version has been updated to 3.9.
- Fixed an issue where if
verify-sslis set tofalse, and theurllib3package (which isn't a dependency of iSubRip) is not installed, an error could be thrown.
- Fixed an issue where the update message from version
2.5.4to2.5.5would still appear after updating. (Issue #73)
- Added new
timeoutsetting to the config file, for the option to change the timeout for all / specific scrapers. See the updated example config for usage examples. (Issue #71)
- Default timeout for requests has been updated from 5 seconds to 10 seconds. (Issue #71)
- Fixed an issue where if the

subtitles.rtl-languagesconfig setting is no longer supported, and its values are now hardcoded and can't be modified.
- Fixed an issue where in some cases,
STYLEblocks would repeat throughout the subtitles file, and cause inaccurate cue count. (Issue #63) - Fixed an issue where the WebVTT Style blocks would have their
STYLEtag replaced with aREGIONtag in downloaded subtitles. - Fixed an issue where an empty playlist (with a size of 0 bytes) would be reported as a valid playlist with no matching subtitles. (Issue #65)

- Added a new
subtitles.webvtt.subrip-alignment-conversionconfig setting (which is off by default), which if set to true, will add the{\an8}tag at the start of lines that are annotated at the top (with theline:0.00%WebVTT setting) when converting to SubRip. (Issue #35) - Implemented caching for AppleTV's storefront configuration data, which should reduce the amount of requests used when scraping multiple AppleTV URLs from the same storefront.

- iTunes links will now redirect to AppleTV and scrape metadata from there, as AppleTV has additional and more accurate metadata.

- If a movie is a pre-order and has no available playlist, a proper error message will be printed with its release date (if available).
- If trying to scrape AppleTV+ content or series (which aren't currently supported), a proper error will be printed.
- A major refactor to the code, to make it more modular and allow for easier development of new features in the future.
- Multiple changes (with some breaking changes) to the config file:
- The
downloads.formatsetting is deprecated, and replaced by thesubtitles.convert-to-srtsetting. - The
downloads.merge-playlistssetting is deprecated, with no replacement.
If an AppleTV link has multiple playlists, they will be downloaded separately. - The
downloads.user-agentsetting is deprecated, with no replacement. The user-agent used by the scraper, will be used for downloads as well. - The
scrapingconfig category no longer exists, and is replaced by ascraperscategory, which has a sub-category with settings for each scraper (for example, ascrapers.itunessub-category).

- Old config paths that were previously deprecated are no longer supported and will no longer work. The updated config settings can be found in the example config.
- This release includes a major rewrite of the code, which may have introduced new bugs to some core features. If you encountered one, please report it.
