[performance] Slow load times of current website

@jstac reported slow load times on a slower internet connection of the site.

I can see the js heap is 3.8mb from the inspection window.

• check with @DrDrij if there is a way to optimise the size (perhaps of the large image) of the site to improve load times.

I think that image caches after the initial load so subsequent load times is much better so I will label as low-priority.
