Remove or keep "crates" directory

Since I started here there has been a crates directory where we put the crates.

It's a common practice in the rust community and a lot of projects do that (Yew (packages, not crates), Rust-CUDA, pretty sure a lot more but can't find any for some reason) but also a lot of project don't (tokio, serde, rang, futures, tracing, ...).

I work exclusively through a terminal and to be really honest with you I'm personally tired of having to type this "crates" directory everywhere and I don't see the value of this so I would like to start a poll in order to see if I can ditch it.
