How can we secure a local venue space to host Brigade events in 2022? #8

I looked into some downtown co-working spaces and contacted two of them. Many of them offer a 'Virtual Office' plan ($100/month) that meets some of our Basic Requirements. The caveat is that the Virtual Office plans includes once-a-month access to the space, where we would then need to pay ≈$50/hr for a meeting room (10-20 people). Most co-working spaces allow meeting-room rental after 5pm as long as the request is sorted out with their front desk personnel beforehand. In short summary, to have a minimal meeting space once a month for a two-hour meeting, it will be $200/month. I'll continue looking for better alternatives (free parking, etc). |

Following a conversation earlier today at Connecting with Clarity Redux, I found interest in City of Orlando Community Centers. Crawling through the pages of parks, I found the following set of community centers, of which I loosely rated on proximity/cost. Most of these centers offer room rental for $50/hour and close at 9pm, which is quite reasonable.
I think these are very reasonable prices if we schedule a 2 hour meeting every month. |

If for some reason none of this works out, the counties also has community centers. |

I visited College Park, Mayor William Senior Center, and John J. Jackson. All have good multipurpose rooms that are a little too large, but I think College Park's is the best. Mayor Williams looks and smells like a hospital and John J. Jackson is crowded. The going rate is $50/hour, an additional $32 insurance fee, and a refundable $100 deposit. They all have free parking, wifi, and restrooms. I'm not sure if they have projectors, so we may have to procure our own (I can find a cheap one). |

The city and county community centers require general liability insurance. As a fiscally sponsored Brigade, we are technically unable to enter into any signed contracts/agreements. So the insurance is another thing to factor. CfA has their own insurance policy for Brigades per the latest financial guidelines. I will reach out to Jess Manapul at CfA to see what we can do. |

The Orange County Library System (OCLS) is another community hotspot to explore. OCLS has several affordable meeting rooms. However, they are probably ideal for weekend events and meetings. Operating hours are during the day. |

For the past two years or so, Code for Orlando has been holding events online using Google Meet and Zoom. There has been some interest to host events in person, but changing COVID protocols and limited event support have made the process difficult.
