Character Variants Not Working in VS Code

Thank you for these wonderful fonts! I am running VS Code 1.96.2 with no customizations on macOS Sequoia 15.2 using Monaspace v1.101. In the Monaspace README it states:

When I follow these instructions and set my settings.json file to:

I see:

which are not slashed zeros or six-pointed asterisks. I have tried changing the font to 'Monaspace Argon' but the character variants still do not appear.
