Is this based on the latest firmware from Asus 3.0.0.6.102_36878? I haven't seen the GPL release where did you get it from if that's the case? Thanks in advance

It's based on 3.0.0.6.102.37346.
We get GPLs straight from Asus development team. They are built just for us.

I'm new to this Fork. I have 2 x BE98's now. When I try to flash I get an error saying Firmware Flash unsuccessful. I'm trying to flash with GT-BE98_3006_102.3_1-gnuton0_beta1_rog_nand_squashfs.pkgtb Is there anything else specific I should be doing?

Have you followed the instructions in the download page? You need to disable the check for the "downgrade"

Thank you for the updated FW. I installed non-ROG version.
I checked Wireless settings and they miss a few settings

• no Smart Connect switch, it disappeared,
• SSID configuration fully disappeared, even name cannot be configured.
  Anybody else has this issue?

UPD: the same on the ROG version. Downgrading to 102_1_1 ended up with broken wifi configuration like SSID name and passwords were converted in some code.

Under NETWORK menu option for me like stock Asus is. I can create or amend the SSIDs there. I'm using the classic GUI under GNUTON though, not the ROG interface.

I guess, you mean System Status-Wireless on the Network map UI, correct? If so, to me this is more like a workartound because the issue with wireless configuration remains there, I don't believe it was expected menu design change.

GNUTON best to advise on design or not, but its the same location as in Asus Stock firmware and that UI has SSIDSS and any VLANS listed under that option of "Network" on the left hand side of menu options using the Asus Classic UI (I am not using ROG UI now moved away from stock firmware). All that is on NETWORK page wouldn't fit under Wireless and its not just relevant to wireless anyway because of VLAN profiles.

I'm also on classic UI, not ROG, but I have no menu item literaly named "Network". That's why I'm puzzled.

Is it under Guest Network Pro? On a GT-BE98 v2, I have a NETWORK menu under AIMESH option.
Have you backed up config, then done a factory reset to see if it appears? If not you can always flash back all your config again.

Ok, more clarity now. I found it in RMerlin changelog post about 3006.102.3:

• NOTE: The new GPL codebase changed the way wireless networks are configured.
  If you ever revert to an older firmware, you MUST do a factory default reset following the firmware downgrade, on both the router and any existing AiMesh nodes.
  And more in his post:
  "As mentionned in the changelog, Asus reworked the way wireless networks are configured internally with recent 3006 releases. The main wireless settings are now configured as a subunit (subunit 1) rather than at the root of the unit. So if you have any custom script or Add-On that interfaced with Wireless settings, don't expect these to still work properly. They will need to be updated to the new internal storage."

GT-BE98_3006_102.2_2-gnuton0_alpha1 upgraded to GT-BE98_3006_102.3_1-gnuton0_beta1.

Issue: On the 10 Gbps LAN-6 port, my Intel X710-T2L (RJ45) on my PC can connect either only at 1 Gbps, or not at all (network cable unplugged even though the cable is connected).

• If i go to Device Manager > Intel > Advanced > Speed & Duplex and force it from "Auto Negotiation" to "10 Gbps Full Duplex", it does not help.
• In Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Network Connections, if i Disable and Enable the Intel connection, sometimes i do not get the connection, and sometimes i do, but it still reconnects at 1 Gbps only.
• Unplugging and replugging the network cable is the same.
• Windows 10 22H2 Professional, patched to the latest.
• Latest Intel 29.5 drivers downloaded from their website. In Device Manager, the driver version is 1.17.88.0.
• Downgrading the X710 driver does not help.
• Initially i thought it may be an issue with my X710. If remove the Intel X710 and connect my older Intel X540-T2 (also RJ45), the issue goes away, but i never had this issue on my X710 on the 3006_102.2_2-gnuton0_alpha1 firmware. The reason i upgraded to X710 is because it runs cooler than the X540.
• Upgrading to 3006_102.3_1-gnuton0_beta1 and doing a "Factory default - does not help.
• Downgrading back to 3006_102.2_2-gnuton0_alpha1 and issue goes away.
• Issue does not exhibit on 3006_102.2_2-gnuton0_alpha1.

I upgraded my Intel X710 NVM firmware - issue is still reproduced.

I took the Intel X710 and connected it to another PC - issue is still reproduced.

I upgraded the firmware to ASUS's official GT-BE98_3.0.0.6_102_36878 - issue is still reproduced.

My conclusion is that this version of the firmware does not work well with Intel X710 on 10 Gbps.

Some feedback on 3006.102.3_1-gnuton1 beta 1 using GT-BE98 (v2 hardware):

Upon applying 3006.102.3_1-gnuton1 beta 1 over the top of Asus stock firmware 3.0.0.6.102_36878, upon firmware completion which was successful and rebooted, the router was no longer connecting to the WAN and red light was on WAN LED. I use the 10gbps WAN port. Upon going to the original IP address of my router which is different to default IP, I was presented with the first setup Out Of Box wizard. So a flag got reset, which made the router present this dialogue as it still had my WiFi SSIDs setup as before. I applied the update over a WAN connection to test applying remotely (it was a fast FTTP connection).

This option is missing under "TOOLS > OTHER SETTINGS":
Wan: Use local caching DNS server as system resolver (default: No)

The description field for Profile 5 (WCG5) under WIREGUARD was missing yet labelled in Asus firmware. In ASUS firmware this is under default gateways - one was default without VPN and another one was to pass traffic for selected devices through Wireguard using Sharksurf VPN configuration details.

Other than this, so far its working well, and look forward to final version release.

Another observation:

On a mobile phone, when pressing the WIRELESS menu option, the page for wireless settings does not resize for mobile screen and is too big to fit. All the other menu options on classic Asus UI do resize.

This is Microsoft Edge browser v131.0.2903.145 on Android 14, latest Edge GA at time of posting

Another observation:

Logging in takes a few seconds. Not sure why as my other Asus models like RT-AX86U and previously AC86U its pretty instant.

I have noticed that since upgrading to this version (GT-BE98 btw), I regularly notice I cannot get replies from DNS -- neither local (PiHole on a Pi) or external (Google DNS). I get time-outs (checked by using the Windows command prompt NSLOOKUP command). The internet connection is working normally at those moments, I can ping external IP addresses, I can reach my PiHole without issues, it's just DNS that temporarily seems to be unreachable both local and external even though they still can be pinged without issue.

Before I flash back to the previous version, is there anyone else who recognizes this issue?

I had the same issue on official 102_36878. I switched to gnuton that is on newer SDK to see if the issue is fixed, but it sill happens. Now it's much less frequent than on 102_36878 but still see the issue.

I have also noticed from 36878 sometimes GT-BE98 drops connections for couple of seconds (max). When I try to access dashboard during that time, it looks like it's super slow, like some process takes more than 100% of CPU. It happens mainly during high network (WiFi?) usage. I have started wondering if it's a problem of v1 hardware. @gnuton did you heard about similar problems from Asus?

I have disabled Advertise router's IP in addition to user-specified DNS and the issue disappeared. No DNS drops, no connection drops, no slow dashboard on router.

Asus GT-BE98 3006.102.3_1-gnuton0_beta1 ROG interface
I am using an nginx reverse proxy to get an https connection to the router on my local network (not from internet) -> https://router.mydomain.com
On the 'Network Map', the status table will not display any information for System Status, Client Status, AIMesh (only the headers show)

The problem seems to be in:
window.parent.postMessage('router_status.asp', ${get_header_info.protocol}://${get_header_info.host}:${get_header_info.port});

Failed to execute 'postMessage' on 'DOMWindow': The target origin provided ('https://router.mydomain.com:8443') does not match the recipient window's origin ('https://router.mydomain.com').

If I use the IP address (which redirects to http://www.asusrouter.com/ even if the redirect was turned off) the table for the three items System Status, Client Status, AIMesh is displayed properly.

This was working properly with ASUS firmware 3.0.0.6.102_36855
