Should be able to just set static to a Moq for test run. But I suppose resetting it afterwords to NullLogger again would be polite.

There's similar need for v2 tests to set ApplicationImpl for duration of test. At the moment each test just has init and reset but it is brittle as if a test fails it will not restore
