Not clear on how to apply different styles for tables and code blocks when doing Markdown -> docx

I want to convert markdown to docx, this works.
However I want this as well:

• All tables should show lines
• Code blocks should be in green text and still use Consolas 10pt font.

I tried generating a reference.docx following the documentation for --reference-doc. Then I opened the file, made the table show all lines, added "Code block" and changed the font to Consolas and made it green. Saved. Then tried to create the new docx from my markdown with the --reference-doc parameter

pandoc ./README.md -o ./README.docx --reference-doc adjusted-reference.docx

the command ran without errors I even see this in the verbose output

[INFO] Loaded adjusted-reference.docx from adjusted-reference.docx

But when I look at the generated file, the table still shows no lines, and code blocks are just Consolas 10pt font black not green.

What am I doing wrong here?

Look at the list of styles you can modify in the documentation you link to. Only those will have any effect.
