One of the most basic functions of a query language is to select some of the things. So it would be great to find it in the tutorial.

A a new jq user, I spent way too long finding select -- I didn't know what it was called and basically skimmed the whole manual looking for something like it.

I don't think I'm qualified. I am still struggling with basic jq use.

Okay, I'm going to include this when improving the tutorial page.

I share the sentiment, I often am required to scan all of the documentation (multiple times) while searching for the correct terminology and methods for my needs. The critical path for technical development and documentation is typically very different than that for new users, even if they are expected to converge. I've been working on a private document (cheat sheet) to "get started quickly" and I will share or contribute when possible or appropriate. Please copy me with developments.
