The first time I press e to edit in iD, a new tab is created. When e is pressed on subsequent tasks, the same tab is updated.
This is an issue on less than superfast connections as openstreetmap is frequently still saving the edits when the tab is updated.
This results in iD asking if the new-unsaved edits are meant to be kept or discarded.
Note, I have tried using firefox on fedora, arch, and windows and edge on windows.
Describe the solution you'd like
Adding an option to open the new task in a new tab would allow the older tabs to save the edits without any issue, with the only minor inconvenience of having to close a few tabs every once in a while

Hi @mrondr, thanks for submitting this.
We will consider adding an option in the editor selection dropdown menu for users to always open iD in a new browser tab, so you as a user can pick the option you want based on your own preference.
After discussing with the team, we will change the options in the dropdown menu to behave like regular links, so you can right-click on them and force any web based editor to open in a new tab. This way, we avoid making the dropdown menu exceedingly long with options that probably few people will use.
