Instructions to use conda do not work... I'd rather use conda, not use WSL. #290

Where is the problem?

https://docs.modular.com/magic/conda

What can we do better?

When I run the command to create a conda environment I get an error as follows:

(base) C:\Users\PowerUser>conda create -n max-project -c conda-forge -c https://conda.modular.com/max/ python=3.11 max=* -y

Retrieving notices: done

Channels:

Platform: win-64

Collecting package metadata (repodata.json): done

Solving environment: failed

LibMambaUnsatisfiableError: Encountered problems while solving:

  • nothing provides max-core ==24.6.0 release needed by max-24.6.0-release

Could not solve for environment specs
The following packages are incompatible
└─ max is not installable because there are no viable options
├─ max 24.6.0 would require
│ └─ max-core ==24.6.0 release, which does not exist (perhaps a missing channel);
├─ max 24.5.0 would require

├─ max 24.4.0 would require
│ └─ max-core >=24.4.0,<24.4.1.0a0 , which does not exist (perhaps a missing channel);
├─ max 24.4.0dev7 would require
│ └─ max-core >=24.4.0dev7,<24.4.0dev8.0a0 , which does not exist (perhaps a missing channel);
├─ max 24.4.0dev6 would require

└─ max 24.4.0dev4 would require
└─ max-core >=24.4.0dev4,<24.4.0dev5.0a0 , which does not exist (perhaps a missing channel).

Anything else?

I'd love to use Mojo when it is ready for Windows. I use conda all the time on Windows. I'll check back in on this question, because maybe it is just a problem with the command syntax, LibMamba, or the Max version.

Thanks for reporting! We don't currently support native Windows (see the get-started) but MAX works with WSL. Conda is just a distribution channel.
