About

This map was initially created during Friday 23rd October 2020 to provide a way for people to find local offers of support being made to Marcus Rashford on Twitter and Facebook.

Twitter user Anjali started curating a Google Sheet of those businesses offering support. We decided to make a map that builds on top of that Google Sheet and that is this page.

We load the data from the Google Sheet and look up the latitudes and longitudes for the postcodes. We use lookup data from the Office of National Statistics. Unfortunately, licensing of the data for Northern Ireland seems to suggest that we are not allowed to use these lookups for non-commercial/public use (they only allow "internal business use") so no Northern Ireland offers will appear on the map.

Alternatives

There is a Google Map created by the people at All Of Us Together who are crowd-sourcing the same sort of information. They are apparently taking in data from Anjali's Sheet (that powers this map) and several other sources. However they are not (as of Tuesday 27th October) sharing the collated data back openly. If they did we'd be able to show the data on this map too.

There is also this Google Map from #AllKidsMatter that was mentioned in a BBC News article on Friday afternoon. It is not clear if the Sheet behind this map is available or if the data are being included in All Of Us Together's map.
