Send Passthrough Data in Auction Call under imp.ext Field

We're trying to include some passthrough data in the auction call with a JSON format like imp:[{ext:{prebid:{passthrough:{"region": "US", "lang": "en-US"}}}] but we couldn't find a supported API for us to achieve this. In the documentation, I saw that we could modify the ortbConfig ext data, however, it says it would require v2.2.1. So, I am wondering if this is the correct way to achieve our goal. If yes, do you have a release plan for v2.2.1? If not, is there any other way to do it?
