Keeping Zotero's PDF background color unaffected by system dark mode #17

I’m currently using this nice add-on to set a background color of my choice. However, when Ubuntu’s dark mode is enabled (which I prefer to keep on), the PDF viewer background doesn’t render as expected due to theme-related adjustments.

Is there any way to prevent Zotero's PDF viewer background from being affected by the system's dark mode?

Any workarounds or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

I can confirm that I have the same issue on MacOS with dark mode turned on (see the image below).

My problem is resolved by simply disabling the Use Dark Mode for Content option in View:

Indeed. Thanks for the tip!
There is still a difference between OS/Zotero dark mode and light mode even though the content is in light mode: For example the background color "CareEyes" differs between OS/Zotero dark mode and light mode:

I see. But I am not sure if there is anything to do with this plugin or if we need to inform Zotero team. What do you think?

I think it is an issue on the extension side. Zotero style also offers changing PDF background, but it does not have the issue (see https://github.com/muisedestiny/zotero-style?tab=readme-ov-file#pdf-styles).

You are right. Thanks.

@dschaehi I just got into trouble. I wanted to try out the plugin (Zotero Style) you suggested. I clicked its Dark Light Button. Then I disabled the plugin. But my Zotero's theme has frozen, it is no longer changing with my system's dark/light mode. I am in Ubuntu btw.

I mentioned the issue here: MuiseDestiny/zotero-style#1234

I guess you could try enabling Zotero style again, then go to Zotero Settings and then turn off PDF style in the plugin setting.

I have tried enabling and disabling the plugin, but it didn't work. And I am not talking about the PDF style, it's happening with the theme of Zotero app. Have you tried it on your MacOS?

I have no such issue on MacOS...

OK setting the Custom color to #87AC89 in the dark mode resulted in a green background similar to CareEyes.
