Setting all elements in a layout to the same size

I have some layouts where I have some number of elements which I wish to have the available space evenly divided between. I am not sure if I haven't read the right docs or there is just no built-in way to enforce this behaviour.

I (think that I) understand that for a component containing some number of layers of components, the size will be set by a component somewhere down the layers with an explicit size which is then propagated back up. However, there are some cases where I wish to override this.

For example, here I have a row of buttons with text on them. By default, the buttons will expand based on the amount of text in them, but I wish for the buttons to be a fixed size and the text to wrap. My solution to this was manually calculating what the width should be, knowing that there will be a certain number of elements in the horizontal direction:

This method was sufficient, but I now wish to achieve similar behaviour with a grid of items, with both width and height being evenly distributed. Since one element I wish to use in the grid contains an image, that row's size adapts to the image.

However, I am unable to specify a height due to a binding loop.

This can be remedied by setting a height in px for the NumberGrid component which allows for self.height to be used, however I wish for it to expand to the space available where I use it. Is there some way to do as I have with width but for height?

Similar to #6948, setting just preferred-width and preferred-height to 0 for the elements which I wish to be evenly sized works (along with removing manually set btn_width)
