HeliumOS is an atomic bootc distro built upon CentOS Stream with the KDE Plasma desktop.

Although there is already a level of collaboration between ublue (especially Bluefin LTS) and HeliumOS, I would like to propose that HeliumOS join the Universal Blue community in a similar respect to Bluefin LTS or Aurora.

This would likely involve the publishing of images to ublue-os/helium as well as a mirror (or possibly direct collaboration) at a ublue-os/helium repository at GitHub.

Would this make HeliumOS the Aurora LTS (but keeping the HeliumOS name I assume)? Or would they be separate projects?

My only concern if they are separate images is what's going to make them different? Why would someone choose one over the other?

HeliumOS would be a separate project from Aurora and Bluefin LTS, but there could be shared components such as branding (Aurora) and perhaps a base image (Bluefin LTS).

This would presumably take the place of an Aurora LTS.

Overall I'm a +1 if this takes the place of an Aurora LTS.

But I wouldn't see much point in both Aurora LTS and HeliumOS images coexisting under the Ublue umbrella unless there's some clear use-case differences between the two.

I'm burning for the idea of a Aurora LTS Type Image and as p5 said, i think it should also exist under the Aurora Umbrella. I would dare to say it is an "established" name right now (if that makes sense sorta) and this will benefit it more.

+1 by me if this ends up being an "Aurora LTS" (no need to rename it tho). even if we include less stuff on the image, the different name should make people know that this is supposed to be different than Aurora

We could also eventually increase the team like we did when Aurora and Bluefin split up 😢 - probably would be just better for both of the projects straight up. This would also have very good support considering Neal Gompa is working upstream to make KDE on CentOS Stream work well.

Currently HeliumOS is hosted and built(?) on Codeberg under https://codeberg.org/HeliumOS/. People contributing to ublue-os usually have github accounts, so it might be best to have the repo hosted on github and maybe some other repos like the iso-generating one on the Codeberg organization. Kinda like what we do with the aurora-docs and aurora-website repos right now (although those could be moved at some point)

https://codeberg.org/HeliumOS/ one-way mirrors to https://github.com/HeliumOS-org/bootc, with GH Actions building the images.

Inverting the relationship and moving the main heliumos bootc repo under ublue-os is an option.

Having more bootc experience on the team is always great! Thanks for proposing this. I think infra wise having it here in github makes the most sense since that's kind of the main benefit of centralization.

I'd like to see some concensus from the KDE people on branding/market fit, etc. all that stuff. I can already see people complaining about the names being different.
