GET ECLIPSE
1. Go to http://www.eclipse.org/downloads
2. Download the "Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers"
3. Unzip it somewhere and run it.
ADD IN EXTRA PACKAGES
1. Go to the workbench
2. From the menus, choose Help->Install New Software...
3. Choose the "--All Available Sites--" software site
4. search for "egit"
5. Get the "Eclipse EGit" package and restart Eclipse if necessary
GET TOMCAT SERVER
1. From the main menu, choose Window->Preferences
2. Choose Server->Runtime Environment
3. Click "Add"
4. Choose Apache Tomcat v7.0 and click Next
5. Click the "Download and Install" button
6. Choose a directory where you want to install Tomcat
7. Click Browse and point it to the directory where you just installed Tomcat
8. click "Finish"
9. click Ok to exit the Preferences dialog
GET CODE FROM GIT
1. From the main menu, choose Window->Open Perspective->Other
2. Choose "Git Repository Exploring"
3. Along the top of the "Git Repositories" view on the left, click on the icon for "Clone a Git Repository" (the icon says GIT on it with a blue arrow)
4. For the URI field, put in "git://github.com/wew/openStudent.git"
5. Eclipse should automatically fill in the other fields
6. Click next
7. "master" should be selected, click Next
8. Choose a location for your local repository (can be anywhere), and hit Finish
MAKE PROJECT FROM YOUR COPY OF CODE
1. You should now have a repository called "openStudent" listed in your Git Repositories
2. Right-click on that repository
3. Choose "Import Projects..."
4. Choose "Import as general project"
5. Click next, choose a name for the project, then click Finish
6. From the main menu, choose "Window->Open Perspective->Other"
7. Choose "Java EE"
START CONFIGURING THE PROJECT
1. In the Project Explorer on the left, select the open student project
2. From the main menu, choose Project->Properties
3. Choose "Project Facets" on the left
4. Click on the "Convert to faceted form" link
5. Click ok
6. From the main menu, choose Project->Properties
7. Click "Java Build path"
8. Choose the "Source" tab
9. There should already be a "openStudent/src/main/java" entry there
10. Click "Add Folder..." and add "openStudent/src/main/resources"
11. Click Ok.
12. From the main menu, choose Project->Properties
13. Click on Project Facets
14. Add the "Dynamic Web Module"
15. Click on the "Runtimes" tab on the right.
16. Add "Apache Tomcat v7.0"
17. Add the "JavaServer Faces" and "JPA" project facets
18. Click on the "Further configuration required" beneath the list of project facets
19. For the JPA facet, the JPA implementation type should be set to "Disable Library Configuration"
20. For the Web Module facet, the content directory should be "WebContent"
21. For the JSF facet,
a) click on the little disk icon on the right in the "JSF Implementation Library" section
b) choose "JSF 2.0 Mojarra"
c) go though the necessary steps until it's downloaded
d) Make sure the "Include libraries with this application" is selected
e) Uncheck the "Configure JSF servlet in deployment descriptor"
22. Click OK
23. Let Eclipse process things for a while
DOWNLOAD ADDITIONAL JAR LIBRARIES
1. You need to copy some additional .jar files in the WebContent/WEB-INF/lib directory of the project (just drag them there)
2. Get EclipseLink
a) Go to http://www.eclipse.org/eclipselink/downloads
b) Get an EclipseLink 2.3 installer zip
c) In that zip file, get eclipselink/jlib/eclipselink.jar
d) Also get eclipselink/jlib/jpa/javax.persistence_2.0.3.v.....
3. Get slf4j
a) Go to http://slf4j.org/download.html
b) Download slf4j-1.6.4.zip
c) In that zip file, get slf4j-1.6.4/slf4j-api-1.6.4.jar
4. Get Primefaces
a) Go to http://primefaces.org/downloads.html
b) Download a copy of the version 3.1 Binary jar
5. Get the Primefaces Cupertino theme
a) Go to http://repository.primefaces.org/org/primefaces/themes/cupertino/1.0.2/
b) Download the cupertino-1.0.2.jar
CONFIGURE A SERVER
1. In the bottom right, choose the Servers tab
2. Right-click in that window, and choose New->Server
3. A dialog should pop up with the information already filled in for starting a new Tomcat v7 server
4. Click next
5. Move the OpenStudent project from the available column to the configured column
6. Click Finish
START RUNNING IT
1. In the bottom right, choose the Servers tab
2. Right-click on the Tomcat server
3. Choose Debug
4. Wait for it to startup
5. Open a web browser, and go to http://localhost:8080/openStudent/welcome.xhtml
