According to systemd.exec(5), a value in EnvironmentFile, as used now, overrides this setting.

Newer systemd will otherwise produce the following warning: "pcscd.service: Referenced but unset environment variable evaluates to an empty string: PCSCD_ARGS".

pcsc-lite now provides a default /etc/default/pcscd so the problem should be fixed. No?

What version of pcsc-lite do you use to get the warning?

That one from bookworm, so my PR is indeed obsolete. Sorry about the confusion.

The message started to appear recently because I have systemd from bookworm-backports.

I misinterpreted the message: I thought it was an issue with the service file; it didn't occur to me that /etc/default/pcscd might not exist.
