Doubling Rate and Half Life
This data is calculated from the last and second-to-last output of the Simple Moving Average formula from Growth of confirmed COVID patients in ICU.
The Doubling Rate is the time, in days, it takes for the number of new patients per day to double and is a direct indicator on how fast the virus is spreading. E.g. if the doubling rate is 20 days and the number of new patients in the ICU is 100 it literally takes 20 days to go from 100 to 200 new patients per day. If the color is green it indicates an upward trend, the number of days is going up and the spread of the virus is slowing down compared to yesterday. If the color is red it indicates a downward trend, the number of days is going down and the spread of the virus is speeding up compared to yesterday.
The formula is as follows. If the growthrate is postive this indicates a doubling rate. If the growthrate is negative this indicates a half life.
Half Life is the time, in days, it takes for the number of new patients per day to halve and is an indicator on how fast the virus is spreading. E.g. if the half life is 20 days and the number of new patients in the ICU is 100 it literally takes 20 days to go from 100 to 50 new patients per day. If the color is green it indicates a downward trend, the number of days is going down and the number of patients in the ICU is going down faster compared to yesterday. If the color is red it indicates an upward trend, the number of days is going up and the number of patients in the ICU is going down slower compared to yesterday.
The formula is as follows. If the growthrate is postive this indicates a doubling rate. If the growthrate is negative this indicates a half life.
