This data is calculated from the Confirmed COVID patients in ICU.

What am I looking at?

Growth of confirmed patients in ICU

You are looking at a chart that shows (negative) growth of patients (y-axis) in the ICU between the date (x-axis) and the day before. The product of this calculation is shown as a percentage change.

The formula used is as follow:

f1

E.g. yesterday there were 100 patients, today there are 150. The percentage change is then calculated as follows where the outcome is a growth of 50%.

f2

Simple Moving Average (5 days)

A Simple Moving Average calculates the 5-day average of the above function. Because the signal of the function above can be quite noisy we want to filter the output a bit. The advantage is a more stable signal, the disadvantage is that the filtered signal lags behind reality a bit. However, since the data from stichting NICE is updated retrospectively this generates a more accurate signal compared to the live growth rates as data inputted is delayed by up to three days.

The formula used is as follow where n = 5:

f3

E.g. the growth rates for the last 5 days is as follow [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The average for these 5 values is then calculated as follows.
