FEI Magellan scanning electron microscope used for acquiring images and orientation maps. Especially useful when looking at the small (~20 nm) speckles produced by the styrene-vapour gold remodelling technique.

Image of gold speckles (white) on a zirconium alloys substrate (black). Produced by first sputtering an uniform gold layer on the metal surface, then passing a styrene vapour over the surface at elevated temperature to form distinct speckles.
